Riki-tiki-tavi by Rudyard Kipling

Riki-tiki-tavi is a short story from The Jungle Book about a mongoose that wants to become a house mongoose. We will watch animated videos of the story after we finish reading the book in class. When watching the videos, think about aspects of the story that stand out more to you when watching the video than reading the text.

Discussion Questions:

1. In stories, sometimes the hero has both negative and positive characteristics. List some qualities of Rikki's that you would consider to be negative. Explain whether or not you think these negative qualities make Rikki less of a hero.

2. In what ways does Rikki’s personality develop as the story progresses? What happens in the story to trigger these personality changes?
